We’ve started working on to give a complete face-lift to our website, and as a part of it we’ve come up with a new logo for our organisation. Since this blog post will get aggregated on Planet Ubuntu and Planet Fedora, I’d like to take this opportunity to get feedbacks about the logo from all of you. There are some brilliant graphic designers in our community and I’ll sure with all of your inputs we can improve the logo!
Microsoft finally made it to Twitter. Big shots like Google and Yahoo are already on Twitter, but it took Microsoft quite some time to decide whether they really want to join or not! (Come on, we all know that they are slow!)
Anyway I found it really interesting, and thought like to welcome them via my account @Linux. I did, and it was awesome to see that people found it hilarious! They started retweeting right away, and as I’m writing right now after an hour, people are still making fun of it.

Here they are, @Microsoft on Twitter. Give them a follow if you like to!
Update:

In a surprising event, they replied and said thanks!

To make these fine fonts easily available on Ubuntu, I’ve made a package of all of them called ttf-ekushey. Users of Ubuntu derivatives such as Linux Mint can use this package too.
Font list:

SolaimanLipi
Rupali
Ekushey Lohit
Ekushey Sharifa
Ekushey Punarbhaba
Ekushey Sumit
Ekushey Durga
Ekushey Saraswati
Ekushey Puja
Ekushey Azad
Ekushey Godhuli
Ekushey Mohua

(Twelve for now, but whenever they releases a new font I’ll update my package too.)

Installation:
To install this package, you can either download the binary file (MD5: a6cbc1dae63c1cf62c1ff4ef4ab73068) from our Launchpad PPA, or install it via apt-get or your graphical package manager. This method is recommended, as you’ll get notification when an update is available. Here’s how to do it via apt-get:
1. Open the apt sources.list file from the run command dialogue box (ALT+F2):

kdesudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list (Kubuntu)

The delete key on my Acer Extensa 5620 wasn’t working on Ubuntu 8.04 out of the box, and I experienced the same problem on Ubuntu 8.10. It’s already filed as Bug 181057 and I hope it’ll be fixed on the next release.
Anyway, here’s how to fix this problem:

Open the following file as root: /etc/X11/xkb/keycodes/xfree86
Find the line <DELE> = 107
Replace it with <DELE> = 242
Find the line <I72> = 242
Replace it with <I72> = 107
Save and reboot, delete key will now work

This problem has been reported on other distributions too, and effects Acer Extensa 5210, 5220, 5620 and possibly other models that I’m not aware of.

After signing up as a BOINC volunteer I received a good number of e-mails from people who ran into problems while trying to install or run the BOINC client on Linux. Sure it isn’t a difficult task, but still it isn’t as straight forward as using it on Windows where you run the installation program and then you’re ready to goto.
I haven’t found much websites that can be helpful for novice Linux users, so here’s my attempt to describe the installation process… the easy way of coarse.
Ubuntu and Debian:
Install the program using the apt-get tool. On the shell, type:
sudo apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager
This will install both the client and the manager. Now type boincmgr to run the graphical user interface, and follow the instructions to attach new projects to the BOINC core client.
A non-graphical alternative to boincmgr is the boinc_cmd program, which is included in the boinc-client package.

Note that this method is applicable for all Ubuntu derivatives such as Linux Mint, Fluxbuntu, Elbuntu, Ubuntu Studio, and more.

Fedora and Redhat Linux:

Download the latest version from here (check the date).

Once downloaded, type the following on shell:

sudo rpm -Uhv boinc_client-*

Done, now you’re ready to go! Run the BOINC manager attach your projects.

Other Distributions:

Follow these steps:

1) Downlod the the latest version of BOINC from here (.sh file)
2) In order to make the file executable, goto shell, become root, and type:

chmod +x boinc_*

3) Now let’s run it. Type:

sh boinc_*

You’ll now see a new directory on same location named BOINC. Get in and run the binstall.sh file. This script will finish the installation and will provide you information on how to start BOINC manually.

If you’ve any questions, then please post it as a comment. Make sure you submit your e-mail address as well, so that I can get back to you. Thanks!
