For donor’s blood? It was given willingly
By boys who took the needles in their veins
And from their bodies every drop of blood was drained
No time to comprehend and there was little pain

And so the story of Bangladesh
Is an ancient one again made fresh
By all who carry out commands
Which flow out of the laws upon which nations stand
Which say to sacrifice a people for a land

Bangladesh, Bangladesh
At 11 o’clock at night country’s clocks were turned to 12, introducing daylight saving time (DST) for the first time. I congratulate the government for taking this initiative, something they should have done long ago just the way they should move the weekend to Sunday from Friday, but that’s another issue.
Microsoft has released a DST patch that I heard works, but if you’re a Linux users then use your package manager or update manager to update your tzdata version so that your computer is DST “compliant” too. Bloggers and social networking site fanatics should change their timezone to GMT/UTC +7 from the respective settings page/control panel, so that the correct time is displayed.
I’m really happy that I’ll now get an extra hour to shoot pictures outside. Earlier I had to packup by 5:30, but not anymore! Yay.

I was lying on my bed talking to a friend on the phone, and I suddenly felt that the bed was shaking. Within 3 seconds, it stopped. My first impression was that a cat got under my bed and it was shaking it, but then I realised that it’s impossible as the bed is way too heavy. (Plus there was no cat, I checked!)

I quickly asked my friends on IRC, and they said they felt it too.

So it was an earthquake for real! Quake in Dhaka at 12:51 AM!

I tweeted instantly. Within minutes, tweets poured in from my friends, confirming that it indeed was a quake.

No news of significant damages till now, except that a Dhaka University student broke his leg jumping off a floor of his dormitory panicked by the quake. What a dumb prick!

Even today the country witnessed rampages by Muslim fundamentalists in Dhaka. Anyone with a minimal IQ and sense of humour will laugh at the cartoon published on 17th September issue of Prothom Alo‘s supplement magazine Alpin, but the twisted minded fundamentalists has turned it upside down.
The cartoon depicts a conversation between a little boy with a cat on his lap and an elderly cleric:

Elderly cleric: Hey kid, what’s your name?
Little boy: My name is Babu
Elderly cleric: You’re supposed to say Mohammad before a name. What’s your father’s name?

Elderly cleric: So what’s that on your lap?

The cleric teaches the boy to use “Mohammad” before a name and like any kid he follows it and says “Mohammad” before saying “cat”. Anyone will laugh at the mistake the boy makes, but ...

Bangladesh is tagged as a “moderate” Muslim country, but how long can it hold this image?

Little boy: Mohammad cat

The cleric teaches the boy to use “Mohammad” before a name and like any kid he follows it and says “Mohammad” before saying “cat”. Anyone will laugh at the mistake the boy makes, but the Saudi sponsored evil fundamentalists relate it to “insulting” Prophet Mohammad and compares it with the infamous Danish cartoon series.

Here’s a scanned copy of that cartoon, judge it yourself how this had “insulted” Islam and Prophet Muhammad:

The interim government has already lost popularity, and the way they handled the situation by arresting the cartoonist has made it worse. The only good side of the arrest is that the cartoonist is in a safe place now. The fundamentalists would have tear him apart if they could find him somewhere. So called followers of a religion which means “peace”!

Here’s what my experience was like:
Day 1: I went to BTTB’s Internet services office at Mogbazar, where they told to submit a formal application to the Division Engineer requesting him to change the DNS entries for my domain. They gave me a sheet of paper and showed me to a table to sit and write.

However, if you want to do the same for your .BD domain, then you’ll have to go through lot of hassles, and moreover you’ll have to wait for more than a week! Here’s what my experience was like:

Day 1: I went to BTTB’s Internet services office at Mogbazar, where they told to submit a formal application to the Division Engineer requesting him to change the DNS entries for my domain. They gave me a sheet of paper and showed me to a table to sit and write.

So I worte one and submitted it to the clerk. He told me that it’ll be taken care of the next morning.

Day 2: I waited, hoping they are working on it.

Day 3: I waited till the last hour, when I realised that they haven’t done anything yet. I called them up, but all their numbers kept on ringing. I was so annoyed at this! Finally after trying for half an hour on different numbers someone picked up and told me angrily that they are getting ready to go home and asked me to contact the next working day! He hung up without giving me a chance to say anything.

Day 4 and 5: Weekly holidays, they are probably watching Hindi movies from the comfort of their homes.

Day 6: Called up the tech guy who’s responsible for making the edit, but he told me that he has not yet received the application. Why not? No answers. So I called the clerk whom I gave it, but he says he has already sent it to the tech guy! I was like, WTF? I called the tech guy again and told him this, but he says it’s not on his desk! Once again, I was like WTF!!!

I got the feeling that I’ll have to be there in person if I want to get my job done, but I was stuck with some other work, and couldn’t make it by office time.

Day 7: I went to their office again, and went directly to the clerk’s room. He serached for my application on a pile of papers, but couldn’t find it there.

The other staff went to their boss’s room, and after searching for 10 minutes came back with my application. It was supposed to be “approved” by their boss, but he somehow overlooked it or didn’t sign it on purpose. May he thought that my application wasn’t formal enough? When I asked them why this could have happened, they told me that their boss doesn’t stay in office for more than two hours a day and doesn’t work much in this time. Anyway, the clerk told me to wait for another day and assured me that he’ll get it done by the next morning.

Day 8: The tech guy finally received the application. He said he’ll take care of it in a while. Time passes, my tension rises, but nothing happens. At around 4 o’clock when I was preparing to call him again, I discovered the updated whois information. Not to mention how many times I had hit F5 on the whois page the whole day.

Day 9: I wait for DNS propagation to take place.

Day 10: Alright, my site is finally up. Mission accomplished with much pain.
