Say you had unprotected sex with your partner. Maybe the condom broke. Maybe the diaphragm or the IUD got misplaced. Or maybe, God forbid, you became a victim of sexual assault. What do you do now? If all this had occurred within the last 3 days, then look no further — get yourself a pack of “Emcon 1” from your local pharmacy.
Important update: Emcon has been rebranded as “Emcon 1”, it is now a single dose medicine instead of double.
A pack of Emcon 1 contains a white-coloured pill, containing 1.5 mg of Levonorgestrel. Applied in a single dose, this progestin-only drug prevents ovulation or fertilisation, and hence protects against pregnancy. Emcon 1 is being manufactured and marketed by Renata Limited in Bangladesh. Outside Bangladesh, you can find this drug under following trade names: Plan B, Levonelle, NorLevo, Postinor or iPill.
If taken in proper timing, this emergency contraceptive (EC) or “morning-after” pill will be up to 95% effective. So how to take it? Take the pill as soon as possible within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It works best if taken within 12 hours, so try to do so if possible. You should remember that more delay you do to take the pill, the less protection you’ll get against pregnancy.
Stuffs to Remember:
- Emcon 1 should not taken on a regular basis
- Emcon 1 is not to be used an alternative of regular birth control pills — emergency cases only
- If you vomit within 3 hours of taking a pill, take another immediately.
- Common side effects are abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, dizziness, and breast tenderness.
You will know if it worked as intended or not if you get your menstrual period within 7 to 10 of taking the pill. For further details, read the following literature carefully:

There are many other medicines like Viagra, one of them is Cialis, but they are for erectile dysfunctions, or for people who have problems having an erection (due to various medical reasons). These are not meant for prolonging erections or prolonging the time of intercourse. However you may give it a try to see if it helps.

Dear Russel, I had my last period on 24th-27th april,I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend on 2ndmay,I swallowed the first pill on 3rd but 4got to take the 2nd one,so I bought a fresh dose on 4th and swallowed 2 at once,I again had sex with him on 12th,and I took the first pill 15 hours after sex and the second pill 17hours after the first pill. I just realised that the pills I took might not be emcon in this case,where I come from(some weird country in africa),we call of them emergency pills,despite of their different brands. So let me give all the details and pray you can still help me. I had the first unprotected sex on 2nd april at around 15mins to midnight,I took the first emergency tab(levonorgestrel) at around 1:30pm,but I forgot to wake up at 1:30am and remembered at 9:30am on 3rd that I had set an alarm I dint hear,so I was advised to take another dose,when I hit the pharmasies,they had only postinor11,and those are the 2tablets I swallowed at once(the pharmacist told me it was very okay). I had sex again on 10th at around 10:30pm and took the first pill(levonorgestrel again) at 12:40pm on 11th may and the second pill at 7:00am on 12th may(I didn’t hear the alarm again but I dint think I was too late). And now,I impatiently wait for your advice.

Bren: Thanks for leaving your information with such details. Though it wasn’t right to have multiple doses of Levonorgestrel (Emcon, Pestinor, they are all same), but looking at the date and time that you mentioned, it appears that you’re safe. Due to the overdose there is a possibility of delay of the first period that is supposed to occur within a week of consuming it, but you should have your period within 25th May. Mark this date and if you don’t have it by then, then please come back and let me know so that I can give you further advise. Also, you’ll be going through a lot of side-effects such as cramps, nausea, etc, if so then try regular mediations for them. Let me know what happens, and please don’t try these pills in the next 6 months or so (for your own health concerns). Best of luck and stay worry-free!
Farha: Pre-cum can cause pregnancy, but the “liquid” that you mentioned can be you own vaginal secretions too. If you’re too much worried and don’t want to take a risk, then grab a pack of Emcon if this had happens within the last 3 days — remember that Emcon works only within 72 hours of intercourse with less change of working the more you delay.
