Transforming Paper Into Art

Children all over the world learn to fold paper planes and boats in their elementary school. This craft of paper folding dates back to 100 AD, when it started in China and spread to Japan by 600 AD. It is from there where it evolved into what we today know as origami. The word originated from the Japanese words “ori” and “kami”, meaning folding and paper respectively.

Unlike common perceptions, origami is not only a hobby for children, but it is practised by people of all ages. It has many useful benefits, and it is also a great source of entertainment and enjoyment for the folders. The pleasure of transforming a plain piece of paper in to a three dimensional beautiful art form can be very satisfying and joyous.

The interest in origami continues to increase even today, intriguing people all around the world. I’m intrigued as well, and here’s what I’ve folded…

Looking For Investors

I need around 80 lacs taka for the fist round financing of my new start-up company. If you’re willing to invest, then get in touch with me. If you know someone who’s looking for a project to invest, then hook me up with them.

My new initiative is first of it’s kind in Bangladesh and it’ll surely bring a revolutionary change in the tech industry. Are you with me or not?

The Search Continues…

When my friend Tanim introduced me to SETI@home back in 2001, I wasn’t really convinced. Sure I did believe in the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence, but I couldn’t sum up how analysing radio frequencies can detect alien life forms. I went through the entire site, read other literatures, but still didn’t had a positive attitude to this project.

Then on one fine January morning, Tanim challenged me to beat him on SETI@home. That is, getting more Work Units (WU) than he does. He had around 100 WU at that time, and I had none. I accepted the challenge, and that was the beginning. The poor chap was ultimately beaten, but it took me another year to do so.

SFD Swags Arrived

SFD ballons and stickers arrived today, much earlier then the last two times. Here’s my cousin Ornim posing with a balloon:

Update: This picture has been featured on the front page of SFD website! Here’s what Pia Waugh of Linux Australia wrote: That is totally cute! I’ve put it on the front page in a news item about how the teams are preparing SFD Swags Arrived Tell her she’s now famous SFD Swags Arrived

Prothom Alo published this picture on their 14th September issue. What I didn’t like is that they breached my license. Thieves!

Creative Commons Version 3.0 is Born

Creative Commons Version 3.0 is Born

After few months of delay, Creative Commons has finally released the Version 3.0 licenses. The key differences from Version 2.5 are:

  • Generic and the US licenses are now separated
  • International harmonisation of moral rights and collecting society
  • No more endorsement language
  • BY-SA compatibility structure is included
  • Clarifications negotiated with Debian and MIT

Congrats to everyone at Creative Commons who made this possible, especially project coordinator Mia Garlick (sad that she’s leaving CC and joining Google). Details of the changes are described here. The official press release isn’t out yet, but should be soon.

And yeah, don’t forget to Digg this news!

Creative Commons in Bangladeshi Jurisdiction

Wouldn’t it be great to have Creative Commons (CC) licenses ported in Bangladeshi jurisdiction? Yeah, it sure would be great and fantastic! And guess what, it’s my latest project now! After more than two months of correspondence with CC internationalization team, I’ve finally received the green signal to proceed.

Creative Commons in Bangladeshi Jurisdiction

I’ll be working on porting the version 3.0 of CC licenses, which will replace the present version 2.5 licenses. Please wish me luck; it’s by far the most daring project I’ve ever got involved with!
