Say you had unprotected sex with your partner. Maybe the condom broke. Maybe the diaphragm or the IUD got misplaced. Or maybe, God forbid, you became a victim of sexual assault. What do you do now? If all this had occurred within the last 3 days, then look no further — get yourself a pack of “Emcon 1” from your local pharmacy.
Important update: Emcon has been rebranded as “Emcon 1”, it is now a single dose medicine instead of double.
A pack of Emcon 1 contains a white-coloured pill, containing 1.5 mg of Levonorgestrel. Applied in a single dose, this progestin-only drug prevents ovulation or fertilisation, and hence protects against pregnancy. Emcon 1 is being manufactured and marketed by Renata Limited in Bangladesh. Outside Bangladesh, you can find this drug under following trade names: Plan B, Levonelle, NorLevo, Postinor or iPill.
If taken in proper timing, this emergency contraceptive (EC) or “morning-after” pill will be up to 95% effective. So how to take it? Take the pill as soon as possible within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It works best if taken within 12 hours, so try to do so if possible. You should remember that more delay you do to take the pill, the less protection you’ll get against pregnancy.
Stuffs to Remember:
- Emcon 1 should not taken on a regular basis
- Emcon 1 is not to be used an alternative of regular birth control pills — emergency cases only
- If you vomit within 3 hours of taking a pill, take another immediately.
- Common side effects are abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, dizziness, and breast tenderness.
You will know if it worked as intended or not if you get your menstrual period within 7 to 10 of taking the pill. For further details, read the following literature carefully:

Evita: OK, what you can do now is wait until 21st September, and if you still don’t have your period, then do a pregnancy test again, using the first urine after you wake up in the morning. The pregnancy kits that are available can’t detect pregnancy for the first 2 weeks, so it’s normal to come out as “negative” when you did the test. The side-effects that you’re having are all related to consumption of Emcon earlier, and will go away with time. Wish you all the best, let me know what happens.

Rana: 1) The vomiting is caused the Emcon, and if it happens it’ll happen within the first 1-2 hours. Within 3 hours, the medicine will already be in the circulation system, and if she vomits after that then there is no need to take another pill. My suggestion is to be cautious for the first few hours, better not to eat or drink anything that may cause you to vomit (such as chotpoti/fuchka/biriyani from those unhealthy road-side shops, you get the idea.)
2) Emcon has to be take *after* intercourse, not *before*. If you have intercourse after taking the pill, it’ll not protect you.
3) Foams are just spermicides, it can’t be used all by itself, it functions as a secondary level of protection with a barrier method, such as with condom. There are no emergency methods that can used before intercourse, sorry.
4) Yes it does, that’s what it’s intended for.

No problem if it’s swallowed, though it doesn’t taste good as I’m told. You may use a tissue paper of rub it off before engaging in oral pleasure. Durex Play have some flavoured lubricants, though not sure if they are available in Bangladesh or not. Only use water-based lubricants as they are safe to use with condoms.

Kevin: If you had sex AFTER she had the pill, then it will NOT protect her. It will only provide protection it is was taken BEFORE having intercourse.

Hi. I had sex wz my new wife. First accidental time she took Emcon1 before 30hours. No vomiting occured within 3hours so as per instruction 2nd dose not taken. Imran: I don’t completely understand your question… anyhow, if she had period 4 days after having Emcon, then she’s not pregnant. If she didn’t have period ever since having Emcon, then she’s probably pregnant, a pregnancy test should confirm it.

Meghla: 1) After a minimum of 14 days. 2) Abortion pills exist but shouldn’t be administered without advice of a doctor. 3) You can, but they won’t work properly, plus this practice is highly unsafe for health. 4) Not needed if you take “Emcom 1”.
My GF took Plan b for safe side as we know that I did not inserted in me She took it no 1st November and her last period was 25th october.
