Say you had unprotected sex with your partner. Maybe the condom broke. Maybe the diaphragm or the IUD got misplaced. Or maybe, God forbid, you became a victim of sexual assault. What do you do now? If all this had occurred within the last 3 days, then look no further — get yourself a pack of “Emcon 1” from your local pharmacy.
Important update: Emcon has been rebranded as “Emcon 1”, it is now a single dose medicine instead of double.
A pack of Emcon 1 contains a white-coloured pill, containing 1.5 mg of Levonorgestrel. Applied in a single dose, this progestin-only drug prevents ovulation or fertilisation, and hence protects against pregnancy. Emcon 1 is being manufactured and marketed by Renata Limited in Bangladesh. Outside Bangladesh, you can find this drug under following trade names: Plan B, Levonelle, NorLevo, Postinor or iPill.
If taken in proper timing, this emergency contraceptive (EC) or “morning-after” pill will be up to 95% effective. So how to take it? Take the pill as soon as possible within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It works best if taken within 12 hours, so try to do so if possible. You should remember that more delay you do to take the pill, the less protection you’ll get against pregnancy.
Stuffs to Remember:
- Emcon 1 should not taken on a regular basis
- Emcon 1 is not to be used an alternative of regular birth control pills — emergency cases only
- If you vomit within 3 hours of taking a pill, take another immediately.
- Common side effects are abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, dizziness, and breast tenderness.
You will know if it worked as intended or not if you get your menstrual period within 7 to 10 of taking the pill. For further details, read the following literature carefully:

Wil: Since she had period AFTER she had the pill, it means she’s not pregnant. Delay in the next period is normal, this is a normal effect of the pill. Expect it around 45 days counting from her last period.

Ferdous: First of all, your wife’s period timing looks normal too me, it’s only a month, you should worry if it exceeds 2 months, provided that her period was always “regular”. Regular doesn’t always mean a 28 or 30 day cycle, a lot of changes occur in the body which can delay the period. Secondly, the way you’re using condom is VERY wrong. You’re ALWAYS supposed to wear the condom before penetration. Pre-cum is sufficient enough to get a girl pregnant, so please avoid this practice if you don’t have any intention to get her pregnant. Ferdous: To know that I need to know how often you have intercourse. Most of the people who commented above slept with their boyfriend/girlfriend once or twice, so emergency pill like Emcon is effective for them. But if you’re doing it regularly, no pills will work now. In case of regular intercourse she can opt for regular birth control pills, but she needs to start it from the first day of the next period. You can try doing a home-based pregnancy test tomorrow to confirm if she’s pregnant or not. I see a possibility, since you’re using condom in a wrong way.

Ferdous: A single microscopic-sized sperm cells is what is needed to get a girl pregnant, it just doesn’t matter at all when and how it entered the body… there is no relation between the safety and normality of the baby with pre-cum or real cum, it’s all the same. For now I’d suggest 2 things: 1) no sex for the next 14 days; 2) if no period by this time, then do the pregnancy test again on the 15th day. In the meantime, tell your partner to stay stress-free, and stress and tension plays a role is delaying periods. All the best!
